National accomplishments

 

          The Department publishes a magazine every year (The Annals of the „Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, the Geography series, accredited by CNCSIS with C category) with the main results of the staff, and also with the contribution of researchers outside the staff of the department. The magazine has a long tradition since 1970 till 1984 under the name of “Scientific Bulletin”, and renamed in 1992 under the current name which has reached the XVII edition (2008).

          In order to increase the impact, the magazine has been introduced in the faculty server (atlas.usv.ro) (starting with March 2007) and is available on the internet through a search engine that can display the authors and keywords.


          Personalities of the Department are members in different editorial collectives of national and international magazines inUkraine and The Republic of Moldova, such as: Carpathian Journal of Earth and Environmental Sciences (ISI rated magazine), Geomorphology Magazine, Risks and disasters, the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca, The Annals of the „Spiru Haret” University of Bucharest,  The  Annals of the University „Ovidius” of Constanta, Visnik Harkovskogo Nationalnogo Universitetu, Harkov.

         Every 2 years the Department of Geography organizes the National Symposium named “Land Use and Environment Quality (which is currently at the 8th edition – 2009), and also conferences, round tables, also any information gathered here is published in its magazine or newsletter dedicated to these events.


          Also, within the department staff were organized meetings of working groups such as “The Seventh Romanian-Italian Workshop in Geomorphology” May, 2002, The International Congress of Romanian Studies, 2002, with participants from USA, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Moldova Republic and Romania.

          Members of the Geography Department have been awarded national prizes, such as: „Grigore Cobălcescu” Romanian Academy Award (1986, 1988) – professor PhD Maria Rădoane, „Gh. Murgoci” Romanian Academy Award (2006) – for reader PhD Liviu Popescu, The “Babeş-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca Award in 1999 – for professor PhD Nicolae Rădoane, The Cultural Foundation of Bucovina Award in 2000 – for professor PhD C. Brânduş, professor PhD M. Rădoane, and professor PhD N.Rădoane.


          The National Recognition of the Geography Department staff is proven by the numerous invitations from PhD Committees from different universities, by obtaining the status of Expert Evaluator in the ARACIS Committee for the domain of science and the Expert Evaluator Certificate for research projects competition from national programs.
